Who We Are

Modern Materials is a family-owned finishing company founded in 1975 by Michael E. Horn. Built on strong values of craftsmanship and reliability, the company has grown into a trusted provider of industrial finishing and coating solutions.

Although now retired from daily operations, Mr. Horn continues to serve as a consultant, sharing decades of industry knowledge and helping guide the company’s continued success.

Second-Generation Leadership

Today, Modern Materials is proudly owned and operated by the second generation, continuing the legacy established at its founding. The company remains committed to delivering dependable service, technical expertise, and long-term customer partnerships.

Our team brings experience across nearly every organic finishing process while continually expanding capabilities to meet evolving industry needs.

Advanced Capabilities

Modern Materials offers a wide range of finishing services, including organic coatings, vibratory finishing, and cast iron seasoning. Our facility is designed to handle projects of all sizes and complexities.

We process components ranging from lightweight parts under one pound to large pieces measuring up to 10' x 10' x 10' and weighing as much as 3,000 pounds. Production volumes vary from small prototype orders to high-volume manufacturing programs reaching six- and seven-digit annual usage.

Quality and consistency are central to everything we do. Modern Materials operates under an ISO 9001-certified quality management system, ensuring controlled processes and reliable results.

We also maintain multiple OEM approvals, including CAT, Deere, DDC, Meritor, and other leading manufacturers, demonstrating our ability to meet strict industry standards.
